Our Bichon Frise’s Medical Emergencies

A lot has happened since I last wrote. Not only is it a new year, but our Sprite has been through several medical emergencies. I am not sure if this is a common thing for Bichon Frises, but she developed bladder stones and had to be operated on…… immediately! It seems that her digestive tract was not able to break down her food, and Sprite’s bladder was full of struvite stones. Thankfully, we have an emergency pet hospital right here in our neighborhood, and because our veterinarian is one of the forty vets who own this animal hospital, she was able to get right in for the operation.

Since this happened to Sprite, I have heard from one of my friend’s that her ShiTsu had the identical problem. So, it must not be that uncommon. I am so glad that I was able to notice that Sprite had urinary problems. It is so difficult to always pick up on your pet’s body language, isn’t it?

Anyway, she seems to be on the mend from the struvite bladder stones, but she is now developing another type of bladder stone! More on that tomorrow……..
